Fitting guide

Installation overview

A summary of the typical steps for a Classical Rainwater run. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific installation.

1
Set the fall to the outlet
Mark a slight gradient along the fascia toward the outlet position so water runs freely to the downpipe.

Fix the brackets
Fit the brackets to the marked line — around two per 1.83m length, and no more than 900mm apart, with a bracket near each joint.

Cut and drill to size
Cut lengths to size with a hacksaw. Where fixing through the gutter, drill 8mm holes about 20mm in from the spigot.

Joint the system
Connect lengths with union clips, sealant and setscrews, checking each spigot-and-socket joint is fully seated.

Fit the downpipe
Fix eared pipes back to the wall directly, or use spacer plates where the pipe needs to stand off the surface.
6
Prepare and overpaint primed products
The black primer finish is for transport only. Overpaint primed items with a suitable top coat before or after installation.

Frequently asked questions

What lengths do the gutters and downpipes come in?

Gutters and downpipes are supplied in 1.83m lengths. Pipe barrels are 1.75m.

Do I need any special bracketry?

Yes. Classical Rainwater gutters and downpipes are fixed using bracketry from the same range.

How is the system jointed?

Lengths connect with a spigot-and-socket joint, held with union clips, sealant and setscrews.

What is the difference between the primed and coated finishes?

Primed is a black water-based primer intended for transport and should be overpainted. Coated is a factory-applied gloss finish.

Can I install cast iron in a coastal area?

Within about 5 miles of the sea the harsher conditions mean extra finishing and ongoing maintenance are recommended.
